This collection consists of 5 folders.  "Ardmore Junior High School" contains binders of materials that assisted Unger in instruction, such as course outlines and exercises.  "Beach Exercise Leader" is comprised of a newspaper article and a photograph from when Unger instructed exercise classes on the beach in Ocean City, New Jersey.  'Notes' contains booklets about exercise machines, personal hygiene, anatomy, and other exercises from when Unger was young.  'Ocean City Public School' contains materials that Unger used during his time employed at the school.  This encompasses a booklet of duties and executive board members of the health club as well as information about the physical education course, including course guidelines, grades, and examples of drills.  'Other School Materials' consists of other items Unger used during his instructing career, including a poster and an exam.

Abstract

Elmer E. Unger (1889-1991) was a physical education instructor in the New Jersey and Pennsylvania areas from 1915-1946.  One of his daughters, Josephine Unger, was a librarian at West Chester State Teachers College.  This collection includes materials Unger used throughout his career, including course guidelines, notes, and various exercises implemented in his curriculum.

Elmer E. Unger (1889-1991) was a physical education instructor at Passaic High School, NJ, 1915-1919, Ocean City High School, NJ, 1919-1927, Ardmore Junior High School, PA,1928-1943, and Long Branch Junior High School, NJ, from 1944 until his retirement in 1946.  After retiring, Unger became a beach exercise leader in Ocean City, New Jersey.  Elmer E. Unger married Elizabeth Unger around 1912 and they had three children: a son, Ayres Unger and two daughters, Helen and Josephine Unger.  Josephine was a librarian at West Chester State Teachers College.Note written by Taylor L.
