The Faculty Dames were a group composed of West Chester faculty spouses. This collection includes correspondence, invitations, event flyers, and articles related to the Faculty Dames.
Biographical / Historical
The Faculty Dames were a group composed of West Chester faculty spouses. The group met regularly and they held and attended social events for faculty members and their spouses over the 20th century. They also fundraised for the Ann Johns Scholarship, a scholarship fund for yonug women attending college at West Chester.
The Dames community provided a supportive and positive environment for faculty spouses and their families. Some former Faculty Dames include Mary Rita Filiano (spouse of Dr. Albert E. Filano), Janet G. Sturzebecker (spouse of Dr. Russell Sturzebecker), and Margaret "Peg" Susan McKenty (spouse of Dr. David McKenty).
Today, the Ann Johns Memorial Scholarship continues to be awarded to support non-traditional female students with financial need.
