Overview
The West Chester University Center for International Programs Collection contains correspondence, promotional materials about foreign study, documents from the Advisory Council for International Education, and newsletters related to international programs and opportunities.
Biographical / Historical
Established in 1973 on campus as the Center for International Education, West Chester University's Center for International Programs (CIP) supports international students, study abroad programs, and the National Student Exchange. Their mission statement is as follows: "As a catalyst for comprehensive internationalization, the Center for International Programs leads the WCU community of educators in developing and preparing students to become globally aware and engaged members of a diverse society."
Through its educational offerings, CIP seeks to build greater cooperation and understanding between countries and people globally.
CIP offers a variety of programs and services for international students, such as providing language training, support services related to advising and immigration, and assistance in settling in at WCU. They also offers the following programs: Exchange Visitor Program, Education Abroad, and the National Student Exhange.
The Exchange Visitor Program encourages scholarly collaborations between WCU faculty, staff, and administration with international scholars. The Education Abroad Program promotes strengthening international ties by sending WCU students abroad to learn and to experience other cultures. The National Student Exchange (NSE) Program provides specific enhanced study abroad opportunities for students at other NSE universities in the United States, Canada, Guam, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
In fall 2022, the center changed their name to the Global Engagement Office.
