Biographical / Historical

The West Chester University Office for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (ODEI) seeks to cultivate a welcoming environment for all through educational programming, partnerships, and outreach. They also provide "leadership and expertise...to advance [West Chester University's] committment to the principles of inclusivity, service, and academic excellence." (1)

Some of the goals of the office are to:

- "Monitor and support a positive campus climate."

- "Provide educational opportunities and facilitate training that promote a greater understanding of identities, inequities, multiculturalism, inclusion and social justice."

- "Enhance and support campus efforts to increase access, retention and success of faculty, staff and students from underrepresented groups."

- "Monitor and recommend policies that promote an equitable learning and working environments free from discrimination and harassment."

- "Ensure compliance with Equal Employment/Educational Opportunity, Title IX and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) through well-defined measures, procedures, data collection and analysis."

- "Identify and advocate for resources which enhance institutional diversity initiatives across the university." (2)

Prior to the establishment of ODEI, a previous iteration of ODEI existed and it was called the Office of Social Equity. THe Office of Social Equity shared a similar mission and set of goals as ODEI, promoting principles of equity, diversity, inclusion, affirmative action, and belonging. They offered educational programming, such as a diversity lecture series, and trainings for staff, faculty, and search committees. They also collaborated with the Office of Human Resources on employee search processes, and worked to implement equitable and inclusive policies and procedures across campus.
