Biographical / Historical
Francis Lorayne Layman was born on February 28, 1913 in Waynesboro, Pennsylvania. A lifelong resident of the Waynesboro area, she graduated Waynesboro High School in 1931 and attended school nearby at West Chester State Teachers College. While at college between 1931 to 1935, Frances was a part of the Moore Literary Society, the Book Club, and the Young Women's Christian Association (YWCA). She also attended various music, arts, and dance performances at West Chester State Teachers College.
After graduating in 1935 with a degree in primary education, Frances became a teacher for the Waynesboro School District. She married her husband, Ivan H. Anderson, on June 14, 1941, becoming Frances Lorrayne (Layman) Anderson. Ivan H. Anderson passed away in 1954. Frances taught within the Waynesboro School District for 38 years, primarily teaching at Hooverville Elementary School. On October 11, 2003, Frances passed away at the age of 90 after an illness.
