Overview

The West Chester University (WCU) Graduate Council Collection contains materials related to the Graduate Council, a group of university faculty, staff, and administrators that help guide the Office of Graduate Studies, now the Graduate School, at the university. It features correspondence, course materials and syllabi, meeting agendas and minutes, and reports and surveys. Materials range in date from 1965-1977.

Biographical / Historical

The Graduate Council was a group comprised of university faculty, staff, and administrators that taught and served as graduate program coorinators for the Office of Graduate Studies.

The Graduate Council corresponded and met regularly to discuss, recommend, and vote on newly proposed classes and programs, activities, policies and procedures, and other aspects that regard graduate education and research. They communicated about and researched issues and opportunities within the Office of Graduate Studies for current and future graduate students.

The council is now known as the Graduate School Council, which shares a similar mission, and the office has been renamed to the Graduate School at West Chester University. The Graduate School Council is a part of the Shared Governance Council, along with the Faculty Senate, the Curriculum and Academic Policy Committee (CAPC), the Council of Chairs, and the Association of Pennsylvania State College and University Faculties (APSCUF).
