The American Association of University Women (AAUW) West Chester - Chester County Branch records are divided into four series: Administrative Materials, Correspondence, Events, and Publications.

Biographical / Historical
Founded in 1881, the American Association of University Women (AAUW) is a national organization that focuses on gender and workplace equity, economic security, and education for women and girls. AAUW is nonpartisan organization that advocates to support laws at the local, state, and federal level that ensure equity and end discrimination. AAUW membership is open to anyone who has an associates degree or higher. There are over 1,000 branches around the United States. (1)
The American Association of University Women (AAUW) West Chester - Chester County Branch is a local chapter of AAUW with the AAUW - Pennsylvania delegation. The local chapter was "founded in 1959 [...] by faculty from West Chester University (formerly West Chester State Teachers College) and community leaders." (2) The West Chester - Chester County branch meets monthly and has several committees and special interest groups. These committees and groups help promote their branch's and national organization's goals and allow AAUW members to connect with each other over shared interests.
They are committed to volunteering and supporting their local communities in several ways, including outreach programs and volunteering. Their outreach includes recognizing a community organization with the annual AAUW Pennsylvania Gateway to Equity Award as well as providing scholarships for students. They also run programs for Girls Exploring Tomorrow’s Technology (GETT), donate books to the Laundromat Library League project, volunteer at the West Chester Food Cupboard, and partner with West Chester University on mission-related programming. (3) They also support and partner with a variety of other community programs and organizations around West Chester and Chester County.
