The Dr. James Albery Binney Collection is divided into 5 series: Dissertation, Manuscripts, Personal Belongings, Poetry, and Publications.
Series 1, Dissertation, features his doctoral dissertation "“A Study of the prose and editorial work of Josiah Gilbert Holland," which he defended at the University of Pittsburgh in 1946.
Series 2, Manuscripts, include two novel and one nonfiction manuscripts written by Dr. Binney. All three manuscripts are undated.
Series 3, Personal Belongings, contains information about his family genealogy, a personal copy of the Holy Bible, and photographs.

Dr. James Albert Binney (1903-1970) was a Professor Emeritus in the English Department at West Chester State College. The Dr. James Albert Binney collection consists of his writings and personal materials. Materials range in date from 1931 to 1970.
Biographical / Historical
Dr. James Albert Binney (1903-1970) received his doctoral degree in 1946 from the University of Pittsbugh. He went on to have a long career as a faculty member in the English Department at West Chester State Teachers College. He was a regular contributor to various publications, writing poems, short stories, and essays. He retired from teaching at the college in 1968 and was appointed as a Professor Emeritus. He died two years later in August 1970.
