Overview
Kenneth Lynn Perrin was appointed interim president of Wester Chester State College September 1982, and inaugurated as president in April of 1984, just as West Chester changed from a State College to a University. This collection is arranged into three series. Series I contains official Communications from the President's Office. Series II contains President Perrin's speeches from 1983 to 1991. Series III contains President Perrin's professional papers, including reports, policies, surveys, standards documents, event ephemera, and awards and certificates.
Biographical Note
Kenneth Lynn Perrin was born on July 29, 1937. He earned a BA at Occidental College, an MA at California State University at Long Beach, and a PhD at Stanford University Medical School (1969).
As of January 1981, he was serving as Dean of the Faculty of Professional Studies at West Chester State College. He was appointed interim president September 1982, when his predecessor Charles G. Mayo was asked to step down. Perrin was inaugurated as president in April of 1984, just as West Chester changed from a State College to a University. During his tenure as president, he raised admissions standards, increased retention, and increased applications by African-American students; oversaw facilities renovations; opened a campus in Exton, PA; and spear-headed the creation of the WCU Japan Center in Fukuoka, Japan. He established a Long-Range Planning Committee in the fall of 1983, and its final report (circa 1985) made recommendations concerning admissions, faculty, staff, administration, curricula, and facilities.
He announced his resignation in April 1991, leaving WCU to serve as president of the Council of Postsecondary Education (COPA). Dr. Perrin died in 2018.
