Identifier: Series 01
The West Chester University Student Council began in the late 1920's and was originally created to have two main organizations known as the Men's Day Student Council and the Men's Dormitory Student Council. The purpose of the day student council according to The Serpentine, the student yearbook, was to "establish a friendly relationship among day student men, to preserve order through setting up and enforcing standards of conduct for men not living in Wayne Hall." The Men's Dormitory Student Council on the other hand was created with the purpose to "enforce the rules set up by the administration and the council; to attempt to better the living conditions of the dormitory men, and to make life in Wayne hall pleasant and happy." Both student council's held the positions for officers and advisors. The information contained in the collection includes meeting notes and the discussion of the Women Students' Cooperative Association which began in 1933. The men's student council's helped to create this association which was made for promoting pleasant and profitable relationships among the women students. The Women Students' Cooperative Association was broken down into two main bodies known as the day student division and the dormitory student division just like the student council.
