Overview

Hummel LaRue Frain (1896-1965) was born in Union Deposit, PA. He attended the Pierce Business School in Philadelphia and then the Wharton School of Finance at the University of Pennsylvania, where he earned his MA and PhD degrees. Dr. Frain was a professor of finance and economics for nearly forty years. This collection contains the administrative papers of H. LaRue Frain, Interim President of West Chester State Teachers College, 1959-60.

Biographical Note

Hummel LaRue Frain (1896-1965) was born in Union Deposit, PA. He attended the Pierce Business School in Philadelphia and then the Wharton School of Finance at the University of Pennsylvania, where he earned his MA and PhD degrees. Dr. Frain was a professor of finance and economics for nearly forty years.

During WWII, Frain was the Assistant Director of Public Relations for Lukens Steel Company. In 1934, he was appointed to the National Fur Commission by President Roosevelt. In 1956, Dr. Frain became a member of the Board of Trustees of West Chester State College. He served as Interim President of the WCSC for the 1959-60 school year. The following year, Frain returned to his teaching position at the University of Pennsylvania.

Frain married Mary Dowlin, a 1918 graduate of West Chester State Normal School. He retired in 1962 and died in 1965.
