This collection is divided into four series: Brochures and Programs, Correspondence, Departmental Materials, and Newsclippings.
Series 1 Brochures and Programs features pamphlets on safety education and theft prevention between the 1960s and 1993.
Series 2 Correspondence includes letters related to a 1971 campus incident, crime, and theft prevention. Most correspondence is between university administration, departmental administration, and various members of the Pennsylvania state government about the abovementioned incident, general safety, and calls to increase budgets for personnel in the department. There is also some correspondence about parking services, fire regulations, and general university announcements.
Series 3 Departmental Materials is comprised of departmental reports and materials on crime statistics and motor vehicle regulations for the campus.
Series 4 Newspaper Clippings includes a news clipping about the major crimes in the Philadelphia area in 1977.

Biographical / Historical
The West Chester University Department of Public Safety (DPS) helps maintain a safe, orderly, and inviting environment for the campus community and guests. DPS is comprised of police officers and security officers that monitor campus activities. They offers safety resources and provides parking services, risk management, and emergency management to the campus community.
As of 2022, the department is headed by Chief Raymond C. Stevenson and Captain Robert Herzog. Police officers patrol the campus on bikes, foot, and patrol cars. Security officers monitor academic, recreational, and residential spaces. DPS offers various self-defense classes. They also communicate with students through e-mail alerts and text messages to inform the campus community of emergencies and incidents on campus and in the local area.
