The Alice M. Strunk collection is divided into 3 series: Class Notebooks, Memorabilia, and Photographs.

Series 1, Class Notebooks, includes Alice’s notebooks from a variety of courses she took while at the West Chester State Normal School. These notebooks cover topics, such as chemistry, education, Latin, lesson plans, health, geography, history, psychology, and more. Please be aware that the health and geography notebooks include notes about eugenics.

Series 2, Memorabilia, features a memorial edition from 1920 of the Amulet, the student newspaper, for George Morris Philips, the late Principal of the West Chester State Normal School.

Series 3, Photographs, includes 12 photographs from her friends, and some of the photographs include notes from her friends at West Chester State Normal School.

The Alice M. Strunk collection includes class notebooks, memorabilia, and photographs from her time at West Chester State Normal School. Alice Strunk graduated from West Chester State Normal School in 1921. The materials range in date from 1919 to 1923.

Biographical / Historical

Alice Mae Strunk hailed from Reading, Pennsylvania. She attended West Chester State Normal School and graduated in 1921. Her 1921 yearbook description details that she was nicknamed “Dimples”. It also mentions that she was an industrious student and a member of the Aryan Literary Society. After graduation, she returned to Reading, Pennsylvania and worked at an elementary school.
