Emma and Mae Longacre were female students at West Chester State Normal school from approximately 1897-1901. During this time, they corresponded with their parents, Daniel W. and Mary (nee Schultz) Longacre, who resided in Trooper, Pennsylvania. This collection contains three handwritten letters; two from Emma and Mae to their parents, and one from Daniel and Mary to their daughters.

This collection contains three letters written between 1897 and 1900 by the Longacre family.

Biographical or Historical Information

Mae S. Longacre was born in Montgomery County, PA on May 25, 1880 to Mary (nee Schultz) and Daniel W. Longacre. She was a student as West Chester State Normal school from 1897 or 1898 to 1901. She studied Elementary Education. During which time she resided with her sister, Emma, at 922 Marshall Street in Norristown, PA. She married James Liedy Anders, a banker, between 1910-1918 and had two children, Mary & Mildred, born approximately 1908 & 1914, respectively. The family’s last known residence was 1118 W. Airy St., Norristown, PA. Emma S. Longacre was born May 1, 1887 in Montgomery County, PA. She attended West Chester State Normal School with her sister, May, from 1897-98  to 1900. She also studied Elementary Education. She married Fred M. Amonson, between 1920-1930, and resided at 922 Marshall Street, Norristown, PA. Both were chiropractors, and had no children.

Custodial History

Barbara Pell purchased the letters from an antique store in Oxford, PA in January, 2014.
